2009 Planting Underway

Posted at 04:56 PM on April 21, 2009 Comments comments (0)

The weather has been glorious- warm sunshine and temps in the 70's. Spring is off to a terrific start. I have a feeling this year will be near perfect for our veggie garden. One can hope, at least!

Tom readied 6 garden beds yesterday evening, so today I planted seeds for: spincah, peas, lettuce, tomatos, cucumbers and radish. Tomorrow I hope to get summer squash and leek seeds i...

Vanodine Status

Posted at 07:28 PM on March 23, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Several months ago, Evans, the Vanodine manufacturer in England, applied to renew Vanodine shipping to the U.S.  Yesterday, we received news that they are still unable to re-establish shipments.

Unfortunately, this means for us that we will no longer be able to sell Vanodine to you as our stock has been extinguished. We, as well as our U.S. supplier "vanodine.com", remain hopeful that shipments will resume ...

Updates & Big News!

Depsite the rather winter-like weather, one listen at the kitchen window and we know it's spring! The Robins and Wrens are back with their hopping and singing ways, the plum and maple tree budds are about ready to burst open. Baby bunnies are expected next week. Glorious spring!

I have updated the "Farm Kitchen" page to include the recipe archives. I'm taking a break from the Re...

Surviving Winter

Posted at 02:23 PM on January 07, 2009 Comments comments (0)

With all the snow, then freezing, then more snow, now being inundated with rain... we are all managing just fine. It has certainly been a challenge, though!

Not much new is happening. Just keeping warm, dry and drooling over all the seed catalogs arriving in the mail. Oh goodness! Somehow it seems too soon for "Spring fever", but the feeling is growing with each passing week.

Brrr!

Winter is finally upon us, no room for doubt! So far our suburban homestead has received a total of 1 inch of snow, half of this just as of 9 o'clock this morning! And it's still snowing, expected to continue until tomorrow, then again this weekend. Woo hoo! We love snow!

The past three days however, the temps haven't risen above freezing... brrr! The wood stove is wonderful, warming our spirits and our home. Bunnies are staying ...

Saying Goodbye

Posted at 05:07 PM on November 24, 2008 Comments comments (0)
We say 'Goodbye' to our original chocolate Satin Does- Trillium and Camas- with melancholy and gratitude in our hearts. They were fantastic rabbits, great personalities and awesome mother's, kindling 17 litters between the two of them. Their contribution to the chocolate variety is being valued among not only the Satin breed, but also in the rare Satin Angora breed. We will miss you, girls!

New Blue AM Herd Does!

Posted at 04:53 PM on November 24, 2008 Comments comments (0)
Over the weekend we acquired two senior blue American Does from our friends at Sage Lake Farm's- 'Becca' and 'Carolina'. These are big, beautiful blues whom we can't wait to exhibit on a judges table. Plus, they each came with newborn litters of blues, what a bonus! They are adjusting to their new environment with seeming ease. Welcome to Two Hunnyz Rabbitry, girls!

Show in Yelm

We attended the show in Yelm, WA this past Saturday. We entered two Satins and one American (the only one there). The Satins didn't place, but received fair remarks, just lacking in width. The AM Doe was DQ'd due to a broken tooth. Ugh. She must have broken it within the couple days prior to the show. Anyway, not too disappointed as Cindy Wickizer finally got to see offspring of the CanAM's. She said this Doe, our Ozette, was "everything... Read Full Post »

100% Wood Heat

Posted at 12:31 PM on October 31, 2008 Comments comments (0)
Our home is finally being heated by wood 100%!!! It took such a long time because to install our 'free' wood stove insert, we discovered, was going to be a bit pricey. Mainly due to the 8" stainless steel flue pipe that needed to be put into our existing chimney. Ca-ching! It took Tom an entire day with the help of a kind neighbor to get everything in. With new firebricks and a coat of paint, she looks like new! And works like a champ!
